Do you ever get bored of routine? Me too. Yet healthy habits are a result of faithful living committed to the end result of a life that makes a difference in our world. What’s the why for you? Why do you want to be healthy? When I faced stage four cancer, after I got through nine months of chemotherapy, the doctor told me he could find no more cancer. I made a commitment to live a healthy life that makes a difference for eternity. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach me Lord, to number my days, that I might present to you a heart of wisdom.”
Zumba instructor Charise Richards says, “Did you know that if you eat right and exercise year round . . . you won’t have to do resets and challenges. If you eat super healthy Sunday evening through Saturday noon . . . taking off Saturday evening meal . . . through Sunday lunch . . . get right back on your good healthy eating and healthy exercising plan. You won’t have to have New Year’s resolutions and resets.”
Why not begin your healthy eating plan today? Start with a few small changes:
- Begin each morning with a cup of lemon water. (Heat water in tea kettle, pour over ½ of a whole squeezed lemon, sip slowly.)
- Cut out anything white—breads, sugars, vegetables, and fruit.
- Use a dessert plate to eat your meals, helps to enforce smaller portions. When you fill your dessert plate up with food, your portion size is cut in half, your eyes will be satisfied with the portion and your stomach will be full when you clean your (smaller) plate.
- Add a thirty-minute power walk into your afternoon routine.
Add these four simple health hacks and in three days, you will be amazed at how much better you feel. “Put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge and in the image of its Creator.” Colossians 3:10
“Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:12–14
Father, thank you that we can trust you with healthy habits: healthy eating and also healthy emotional choices as we start the New Year. In Jesus’ name, amen.
